Fourth cohort of Iso Lomso fellows announced

The STIAS Research and Fellowship Programme Committee on 22nd April announced its fourth cohort of Iso Lomso fellows.

The Seven successful candidates from six African countries were selected from a total of 91 applications. They join nineteen candidates from the first, second and third cohorts to constitute the current STIAS Iso Lomso fellows.

As with the first three cohorts, STIAS will offer the seven a three-year fellowship at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study, with the first periods of residency expected to occur between the months of July 2020 to June 2021.

STIAS further intends to approach several of its sister institutes for advanced study and others in view of a possible residency abroad for each of the fellows during 2021/2022.

From Namibia, Elina Amadhila of the University of Namibia was selected for a research project on Government agricultural finance interventions as instruments for social protection: a comparative review of developing economies.

Lukman Adebisi Abdulrauf from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria was selected for the project titled Constitutionalism and the internet in Africa: Progress, challenges and prospects.

Representing South Africa, Ntakadzeni Edwin Madala from University of Venda and Wamuwi Mbao of Stellenbosch University were selected for projects titled; Deciphering the biological consequences of geometrical isomerization of natural compounds and Representing Discontent: South Africa in Words and on-screen respectively.

A Burundian, Arcade Ndoricimpa from the University of Burundi in Burundi was successful for the project titled; Capital Movement Through Trade Misinvoicing in Africa: A disaggregate approach.

Solofo Nasandratra of the Universite D’Antananarivo in Madagascar and Etienne Wamba based at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Cameroon presented projects on; Local soil knowledge: a tool for sustainable agricultural systems in Madagascar and Dynamics and Quantum Hydrodynamics of Bose-Einstein condensates.

The next round of application opens in August 2020.
