Inter-University Council for East Africa to hold its 13TH annual meeting and conference in Bujumbura in July



The Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) has announced its 13th Annual Meeting and Conference in Bujumbura, Burundi. The Conference will be held on 5th and the Annual Meeting on 6th July 2022, each starting at 9:00 am. The conference theme is strengthening academia-industry partnership for commercialization of research and innovation in the EAC: Prospects for regional integration.

According to IUCEA, the Annual Meeting is one of its statutory meetings, provided in accordance with Section 7 (1) and (2) of the IUCEA Act 2009. The Meeting brings together heads of IUCEA member universities, permanent/principal secretaries of ministries responsible for higher education, heads of national commissions and councils for higher education, heads of national commissions and councils for science and technology from EAC Partner States, representatives of East African Business Council in each Partner State, students, and other higher education stakeholders.

The Annual Meeting which brings together higher education stakeholders in East Africa purposes to take stock of the development in higher education and research in the region, to enable IUCEA to appropriately advise the EAC Partner States on any aspects or matters related to higher education dynamics in the region and globally. Furthermore, the meeting shall create an environment for exchange of information and experiences on higher education and research matters in the region, thereby giving an opportunity to reflect on issues regarding developments in the sector and to come up with strategies for moving ahead.

Just like last year’s conference in Nairobi, this year’s meeting and conference shall also be hybrid whereby participants can attend physically or virtually. Any interested individual can register and attend virtually while only IUCEA Members are welcome to attend physically but may also choose to do so virtually, should they they wish.

IUCEA brings together higher education stakeholders in 5 East African countries namely, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi currently with over 130 institutional members. IUCEA was actively integrated in the East African Community operational framework in 2009 by the the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) IUCEA Act of the same year.
