The Association of African Universities (AAU) will be holding its 15th Quadrennial General Conference of African University Leaders from 5th – 8th July, 2021. If planning to participate, you are encouraged to register on the AAU’s website and the registration remains free of any cost.

Under the patronage of Ghana’s President, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the summit which will be held virtually because of Covid-19 is set to bring together attendees from different dockets including African Governments and other Policy Makers, Academics (both from Africa and the diaspora), Researchers, Development Partners, Captains of Industry, Regional Economic Communities, Media, among others.  

The conference is expected to bring together a global audience of over 5,000 participants, the summit will provide an opportunity for African academics to share scientific and research ideologies in line with the theme, as well as a forum for sharing best practices with peers and policy makers. The summit also is expected to strengthen networking among African higher education institutions.

Amongst the sub-themes of the conference include: The Future of African Higher Education Post-COVID-19, Contributions of African Higher Education Institutions to Addressing the Challenges linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, Contributions of African Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Funding of African Higher Education Institutions in the face of unpredictable Economy, Mainstreaming e-learning and the digital divide and Contributions of the Diaspora to African Higher Education.

A blend of experienced speakers will be in attendance leading the discussions and engagement sessions, including H.E. Professor Sarah Anyang Agbor the Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology (HRST), African Union Commission.

The Association of African Universities is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization created by African Universities to promote cooperation among them on the one hand, and between them and the international academic community on the other. Created in 1967, the AAU is the voice of higher education in Africa. AAU aims to improve the quality of African higher education, and to strengthen its contribution to Africa’s development by supporting the core functions of higher education institutions and facilitating critical reflection and consensus building on issues affecting higher education.
