British Council hosts the 2020 Going Global Conference virtually due to COVID-19

The British Council announced in May the cancellation of this year's Going Global Conference. In the absence of the conference, it is offering series of digital events and sharing exclusive content throughout the month of June, so that the conversation around internationalizing higher education can continue.

The event was originally planned for June 29 - 30, in London. The organization says the decision to postpone was taken in response to the severe and prolonged impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the global community.

As per the British Council, delegates and contributors who purchased a conference pass will receive a full refund.

The free virtual live events will be hosted by expert panelists and will explore this year's conference theme which focuses on the global learner of the future, their journey to becoming a global innovator and how this shapes global learning institutions.

The sessions are taking place on various dates in June and the timings will be UK time (British Summer Time). After each Going Global live event, they will be sharing the recording for each session.

Going Global is an annual conference for leaders in international education to debate the future of further and higher education and is one of the most significant events on the education calendar.

According to Sir Ciarán Devane, the British Council’s Chief Executive, "the annual conference is where people helping to solve the problems of the world got together because no single country could do it alone."

Last year, more than 950 leaders in higher education, business and government representing over 85 countries attended the 13th annual conference, that took place in Berlin.

Many educational conferences have been either postponed or cancelled for the year which is unfortunate for those who look forward to the professional development and networking these events provide.
