Young innovators award winners in 2022 RUFORUM AGM

The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) is gearing up to host its 19th Annual General Meeting (AGM) from October 29th to November 3rd, 2023. The event, which will be held at the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé, Cameroon, will bring together over 600 participants from around the world, including policymakers, higher education leaders, development partners, private sector leaders, researchers, innovators, students, and farmer organisations.

Under the theme "Transforming Higher Education to Sustainably Feed and Create Prosperity for Africa," the AGM will be hosted by the Government of the Republic of Cameroon in partnership with RUFORUM member universities in Cameroon, namely the University of Bamenda, the University of Buea, the University of Dschang, the University of Maroua, and the University of Ngaoundere.

The AGM will feature several events, including pre-AGM events, AGM side events, RUFORUM business meetings, capacity-building sessions, scientific conferences, exhibitions, poster sessions, Ministerial roundtable, site visits, among others. This will be the first time the RUFORUM Conference event is hosted in Central Africa, in a bi-lingual country, and it follows the 2022 AGM, which was hosted in Zimbabwe following the 2021 Triennial hosted in Benin.

The 19th RUFORUM AGM has six primary objectives, including providing a forum for the RUFORUM Governance organs to reflect on progress made on the implementation of various programs and initiatives of the RUFORUM network, especially those geared towards achieving transformative Higher Education in relation to Agrifood Systems and wealth creation. The AGM also aims to provide a platform for the RUFORUM Secretariat to sensitize the Network members about the 2nd RUFORUM Operational Plan for the RUFORUM Vision 2030 Strategy, among other objectives.

The AGM presents an opportunity for scientists, researchers, and students to share their scientific findings, science-based solutions, and experiences. It also provides a platform for RUFORUM members to establish partnerships and/or teams to respond to various opportunities. The event aims to engage Governments to support Higher Education in Africa and reflect on progress made in the operationalization of the five continental initiatives in various countries.
