Kenyan VC Elected President of EARIMA.

Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Machakos University Lucy Irungu has added a new feather to her cap after she was last week elected the new president of the East African Research and Innovation Management Association (EARIMA).

The professor and former University of Nairobi Deputy Vice-Chancellor was elected during the recent annual Conference of the association held in Arusha, Tanzania where EARIMA was holding its fourth annual conference.

The administrator took over from Professor Eli Katunguka who is the Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University, Uganda who has served at the helm of EARIMA for the past four years, and under whose tenure EARIMA was transformed into becoming an active organization in the higher education and research scene in East Africa.

In her speech, Professor Irungu promised to do her best to ensure EARIMA progresses as a cohesive association beneficial to its members.

More important, she will ensure that young researchers get an opportunity to participate in EARIMA activities allowing them a chance to interact with senior researchers.

Additionally, the Kenyan scholar will seek to grow membership and use her experience with funders, to ensure EARIMA remains a well  funded body.

The professor will serve for the next two years, assisted by three vice presidents appointed from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania respectively.
