37 Graduate with AIMS Master’s in Mathematical Sciences

AIMS Rwanda’s third cohort graduates pose with their tutors

A cohort of 37 graduates from 13 African nations graduated with the extremely regarded AIMS Master's in Mathematical Sciences from the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS).

The graduation is the third since the establishment of AIMS in Kigali and brings the total number of graduates from the institute to 79 students drawn from over 30 African countries.

The graduating students from the Kigali campus come from nationalities including Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Kenya, Tanzania, and Sudan.

AIMS comprises of a network of Pan-African Centers of Excellence located in South Africa, Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana and Rwanda and a total of 173 students will be graduating this month from all AIMS centres across Africa.

According to Sam Yala, Centre President AIMS Rwanda out of the 173 students 25 majored in climate sciences, a branch of mathematical sciences that was recently rolled out to study global challenges posed by climate change.

AIMS Rwanda, he said will establish the first Research Chair in Climate sciences from August this year, in an attempt to attract and retain the best topical researchers, and consolidate the centre as an institutional thought leader in the subject, AIMS says in its portal.

This will also promote Rwanda’s profile as a hub for Academic Tourism.
