Professor Tumani Corrah

Professor Tumani Corrah, Emeritus Director of the Medical Research Council Unit at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has been delegated honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, in recognition of his services to medical research in sub-Saharan Africa.

The honour was introduced by Her Excellency Sharon Wardle, British High Commissioner on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, on Thursday ninth January 2020, in a function held at the British High Commissioner’s residence in Bakau, The Gambia

The AAS individual has had a significant impact on the advancement of wellbeing in the least fortunate countries in Africa, by impacting governments to help health research and embrace its discoveries into social insurance, just as advancing coordinated efforts between indigenous medical research networks across Africa, with fruitful joint applications for financing.

On accepting his honour, Professor Corrah stated, "I need to express gratitude toward Her Majesty, through the High Commissioner, for recognizing the efforts I have put in place to promote excellent science research in Africa.

Professor Tumani Corrah KBE has also founded and secured diverse philanthropic support for the African Research Excellence Foundation charity – a new organisation that is already providing scholarships for early-career African medical scientists, with great long-term promise.
