JKUAT’s Prof. Bancy Mati Appointed the UN Committee on World Food Security

Prof. Bancy Mati

Prof. Bancy Mati has been appointed by the Bureau of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) to serve as a member of the Steering Committee of the High-Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) for a period of 2 years.

Strikingly, she is one of the two Africans to serve on the steering committee and joins a team of 15 experts from all over the world. She will now serve on two United Nations Advisory Committees including the United Nations Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and Resources.

Prof. Mati, who is the Director at JKUAT’s Water Research and Resource Center (WARREC), has extensive research experience on land and water management for agriculture not only in Kenya but across the continent.

She has over 150 publications from journals, books, book chapters, training manuals, research reports to developing Policy and Strategy documents and has produced 9 documentary films on land and water management, one of which won her 1st prize in Africa, awarded by Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) in 2013.

Created in October 2009 HLPE facilitates policy debates and inform policymaking by providing independent, comprehensive and evidence-based analysis and advice at the request of CFS. It also publishes reports on various topics relevant to world food security.
