META Announces Bursary Funding for Emerging Researchers to Attend AI4D Conference on AI Ethics and Policy in African Research in Kigali



META, has announced a call for applications for bursary funding to support the attendance of emerging researchers at the Artificial Intelligence for Development (AI4D) Conference. The conference is supported by the IDRC, Niyel, and GIZ: Fair Forward, and will be held in Kigali from June 12-14, 2023.

The bursary funding will provide support to up to 8 emerging researchers to attend the conference and present their research at a session attended by the AI4D community and leading researchers from across the African continent. The funding is aimed at assisting the researchers to build their professional profiles and enhance their expertise in the area of AI ethics/human rights and policy/governance in African research.

Artificial Intelligence for Development (AI4D) Africa funding program supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

The call for applications is open to emerging researchers who have not yet completed their PhD and are committed to working on AI ethics/human rights and policy/governance in African research. Applicants must have completed a Master's degree, be enrolled in a PhD, be younger than 40 years of age, and be based on the African continent.

Interested applicants are required to submit their CV, a brief motivation for attending the event (500 words), and an abstract of the work they intend to present (300 words) by April 7th, 2023.

The awardees will be selected by an independent and representative panel consisting of leading experts in AI ethics and policy from across Africa. The successful applicants will be contacted via email in early May with the outcome of their application.
