The theme of ECAS 2027 is “African Prisms”. It aims to speak to the multiplicity of disciplines, perspectives, methods, histories, and images that shape the contemporary study of Africa. At its essence, a prism refracts light, revealing a spectrum where once appeared unity.

From 30 June to 3 July 2027, Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal, will welcome scholars from across the world for the 11th European Conference of African Studies (ECAS2027): African Prisms.
