Makerere's DRGT Wins US$1million Carnegie Research Grant

The Directorate of Research and Graduate Training (DRGT) at Makerere University has received a grant worth US$1million from the Board of Trustees of Carnegie Corporation of New York. The Carnegie Research Grant will go towards nurturing Early-Career Academics at the University.

The grant expected to run from October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2021, will focus on expanding the university's community of research leaders and doctoral supervisors, as well as offer mentoring support that will  help guide the mentee through their research career development activities, offer advice and help identify on-the-job learning opportunities, reports Makerere's website.

According to Professor Buyinza Mukadasi, the Director of DRGT, this award is the culmination of an intense interactive submission and review process, and undeniably another life-time recognition of DRGT's growing excellence in supporting early-career academics. He further thanked the Carnegie Corporation of New York for its enduring support to their core functions.

The Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies was established in Makerere University to give both graduate students and supervisors a sense of belonging to a meaningful scholarly community.
